Chicagoland Senior News was named the recipient of honors in five categories in the North American Mature Publishers Association 2011 Media Awards. The awards evaluate publications serving the boomer and senior markets.

Judged for overall value, CSN 50 and Better was awarded honors in the General Excellence and Most Improved categories in its division.

Additionally, the publication won three awards for articles written by Managing Editor Dawn Williams. Two of her articles on strength training for seniors received honors in the "How To" and "Urgent Senior Issues" categories. Her syndicated column, Interlude, also was awarded in the "Feature Writing" category.

"In the past year, CSN has expanded its circulation as well as its content and the quality of material we can offer readers," said Publisher Dennis J. Simonini. "I am very pleased that the hard work of our talented staff has been recognized. More importantly, this recognition has motivated our people to work even harder to bring readers the best possible publication each month."

"Writing has been my passion all my life," said Williams, "but I put my career on hold for many years to raise a family. It is especially gratifying in my work for a 50-plus publication to be recognized at this later stage in life."

CSN 50 and Better publishes nine editions each month in the city and surrounding suburbs. In October, CSN branched northward to launch Rockford Senior News 50 and Better. Beginning in December, a third spin-off publication, DeKalb Senior News 50 and Better, will begin circulation.
